This is a mental disorder that is not only abnormal, but it’s coupled with other symptoms like persistent elevated, expansive, and irritable mood, increased energy, emotional instability, impulsivity, etc. Bipolar disorder may or may not present with psychotic features. The hallmark feature of bipolar I disorder is it lasts for at least one week, it is present for most of the day, and sleep may not be good. These are symptoms not attributable to any medical or physiological conditions; they are mood disturbances that result in impairment to social and occupational functioning. These presenting symptoms necessitate hospitalization not to cause harm to oneself and other people.
